Our goal at Learning Independence is for every client to succeed, for each person to be aware, motivated and to develop the ability to represent and communicate his or her own interests, to exercise personal choice, to exert control over his or her own environment, to achieve independence, and to avoid exploitation and abuse.

When individuals are not allowed to make daily living decisions, even small decisions become major stumbling blocks in their lives.
The person then, learns to shun responsibility and eventually prefer dependence to independence.
On the other hand, at Learning Independence by empowering each individual and providing them with the tools necessary to exercise their personal right's and therefore the need to learn responsibility, by learning these skills, this will lead to self-confidence, and eventually to independent thinking.

Our Goal:
People with developmental disabilities have the same basic rights and responsibilities as all other residents of the United States and the State of California.

A right to dignity, privacy and humane care.

A right to participate in an appropriate program of publicly-supported education, regardless of degree of disability.

A right to prompt medical care and treatment.

A right to religious freedom and practice.

A right to social interaction and participation in community activities. A right to physical exercise and recreational opportunities.

A right to be free from harm, including unnecessary physical restraint or isolation, excessive medication, abuse or neglect.

A right to be free from hazardous procedures.

A right to make choices in your own life.

A right to have relationships, marry, be part of a family, and to parent if they so choose.
